Week 12
Social media stalking!
So inspired by the celebrity stalking task in my class as well as our discussion about fandoms I decided to make a blog post talking about corgis! Yes! Corgis! Short legged little furry critters that have become very famous in recent years!
In this post I will be showcasing few of my favorite Corgi-tubers and Corgi-instagrammers who I follow and how they (meaning the owners) interact with the fans.
First: Gatsby!
Followers on Instagram: 23,500
Subscribers on Youtube: 555,000
Gatsby is a tricolor corgi owned by Ryen Lung who has a channel on Youtube called "VlogAfterCollage" where he post a vlog of his day with Gatsby once a week. Currently they are at episode number 658 so they've been doing this for a long long time. The owner Ryen doesn't seem to interact with the fans that much on social media since he doesn't comment or like comments on Instagram nor Youtube but in his videos he does answer some big fan questions and he does have a lot of merch that he sells to his fans online and at corgi meetings where he usually has a spot where he chats with Gatsby and his fandom. He doesn't have a lot of followers on Instagram but has probably the most subscribers than any other Corgi youtuber. Why Gatsby has become popular is probably because of Ryen's personality as well as Gatsby's. Gatsby is also a very beautiful tricolor Pembroke Corgi which you do not see that often online, not to say the other tricolors are ugly, but you rarely see one with as nice of a fur as Gatsby's.
Second: Maple and Morty!
Followers on Instagram: 292,000
Maple and Morty are a tag team of cuteness and my favorite Instagram to follow! Double the Corgis double the trouble! What seperates these corgis from the other instagram corgis is the comedy. The owners mostly post videos of the two corgis and their weird behavior. Many corgi instagrammers only post pictures of their dogs instead of videos and that is what really sets Maple and Morty apart from the rest. On top of this you add the sassy personality of Maple who does not enjoy human nor dog interaction except from her mum(Owner) and absolutely hates Kingsley(Owner/dad) as well as Morty's crybaby antics and you have two funny personalities to follow. Unlike Ryen, Maple and Morty's owners comment and like comments in the videos and often have funny remarks or laugh at some funny stories their followers have written, they also make Instagram stories daily which keeps people following even though they do not post videos regularly. Maple and Morty also have merch but not as much as Gatsby. Currently they only have a "Anti Kingsley Kingsley Club" hoodies as well as stickers.
Honorable mentions goes to :
Topi the Corgi
Finnish Corgi Youtuber who does small skits in which Topi does things such as "Getting ready for a Tinder date" or "Looking after friend's kids". The videos are very well made but I think it is more entertaining for younger audiences like children. Topi is also the only Cardigan on this list.
ThreeCrazyCorgis
Instagram user with three cute corgis, Buttercup, Reecie and Peanut. This account is known for specificly Buttercup who is an angelic looking disabled corgi who after becoming disabled learned to become a therapy dog. The owners also do charity work for people with physical disabilities and bring Buttercup with them to charity events.

I hope these people really takes care of the dogs and not just pretend in front of the camera to get views. If you know Brooke Houts you know what I'm talking about. I'm always a little bit sceptical of these videos that has animals or children in it.
ReplyDeleteAh I know her because I love dobermans and she treated hers badly :/ But in case of her she was making a video and got pissed off the dobbie came to interupt her. Aside from Gatsby we never see the owners (nor children) in the videos. Topi is the only one which is staged and he is made to do tricks etc but all the other accounts mostly film their Corgi's playing and aside from Gatsby the owners didn't start filming their dogs until adulthood and Maple and Morty's puppy videos are dropped once in a while when they find videos of one of them being a puppy. I can't be 100% sure of course that nothing is going on but the dogs don't seem to have any problems as of yet.
DeleteI love this post! I didn't know that there were Instagram profiles of dogs, it's very funny! That's true that it's very important the personality of the owner because it's her or him that constructs the personality of the dog two. Funny dog, mysterious dog, crazy dog, couple dogs... But it's a new world that I have to explore! My favorite one it's Maple and Morty they seem super cute and funny! I will add them to my Instagram to follow their posts! Thanks for the information, super nice post.
