Week 13

Theme Park Art Rally and Workshop are brilliant events that not that many people seem to know about. So let me share.

Theme Park Art Rally is a yearly event in which the aim is to reduce the distance between students and industry professionals. The event is free and is relatively new, the first Art Rally was held in 2017 and it is still going strong. Even though the event is free the educators coming to the Art Rally are quality professionals and usually from different countries so watch out for heavy accents if you attend! Though it is free you need digital tickets for it which for this year are already sold out. (in two days no less! 200 tickets!) Originally the Park was held in Kouvola but this year it is being held in Helsinki in hopes of seeing more people attend since apparently in Kouvola the amount of people who appear vs how many tickets are sold is not equal.

The event is apparently created by Ivan Lugovoy and it has it's own website which is currently being worked on and is down but the Facebook has more info on the event.

I attended the Art Rally in November 2018 where the guest speakers for that year were Lip Comarella, Ivan Smirnov, Even Mehl Amundsen and Shana Vandercruysse. The event was great and I got to see  Lip show his animations and talk about unique methods to use in animation, Ivan talk about his school program and how he started it, Evan draw and talk about his career and inspirations for his work, and Shana sculpting and discuss her journey to becoming a 3D sculptor. I do not remember all the details but you were allowed to ask any question you wanted during the panels and the guests were awesome. Unfortunately though I was also dead tired after long days of panel talks. Lots of information, too little sleep.

This year the event will be held in Aalto University's space instead of the previous year's XAMK. University's space and this year it is sponsored by Supercell, XAMK, Aalto University and RedLynx and the artists attending this year are Pauline Voß, Jessica Rossier, Bastien Grivet, Brice Laville Saint-Martin, Miro Vesterinen, Spiridon Giannakis and Scott Liedtka. (more info about the panels will come around 12.11 - 15.11.2019.

There is also Theme Park Workshop which I attended in May 2019 where there was three educators that gave free one on one teaching. The options were Basics of shading in Unity Engine by Antti VeräjänkorvaIntro into environment concept art by Ivan Smirnov and the one I took which was Material rendering for 2D artists by Andrey Astahov.

These are some of the stuff I did with Astahov at the Workshop:

Progress of how to design and how to break your work into small parts

Finished product, now as great as what others did but still proud of it!

Btw, if someone reads this far. Be thankful I provided links for all these artists, cause googling them was not easy because of the names.

  1. This is super cool! I love what you've made during the workshop. The Art Rally sounds amazing and seems like a great chance of learning more about everything in general. And yes, I'm forever thankful for your googling effort.
